Chairman's Report January 2012
An eventful year begins which contains both The Queen's Diamond Jubilee and our nation's hosting of the Olympics. It is also the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in April when my 105 year old grandfather was a young lad. We have no plans to visit the wreck site on a day trip but they will be opportunities to hear about life at sea at one of our monthly talks! These take place on the third Thursday of each month from March to November at the Quaker Rooms in Church Street, Colchester, situated behind the Mercury Theatre at the top of the High Street. Our April meeting will include the AGM.
We also have a programme of excursions that can be booked with a small deposit now. Please see this website for more details or ring me on 01255 831565 for more details. We welcome all those who have retired with any length of service with the Sainsbury group whether or not you have a company pension.
A big thank you to the committee for all their work in 2011 and we look forward to seeing many of you sometime this year.

Chairman's Report November 2011
The JSV Eastern Region held its annual conference last month. The grant that Sainsburys kindly give the Veterans has not increased for many years so what we receive is worth less each year. In future, as part of saving costs we will only mail out this yearly newsletter to all 200+ Colchester members. It does contain all the meeting dates and most of our activities. A Spring update will be sent containing details of Christmas time events and any other news to those of you who come on the trips, attend some of our monthly meetings, or ask specifically to be included in the update mailings. Details of Colchester events can be found on our Eastern website at www.jsveast.com
Notice of the Annual General Meeting of the JSV Colchester Local Association
This will be held at the Quaker Rooms, Church Street, Colchester on Thursday 19th April 2012 at 2.30pm. Hear minutes and reports from your committee officers and vote in the election of members for the next financial year. Refreshments will be provided.
We will apply for tickets to the Thursford Christmas 2012 show for an afternoon performance. More details will be given in the Spring Newsletter once we receive the date in late March.
The 2012 Christmas lunch date will be discussed by the committee at its meeting on Tuesday 27th March 2012 and included in the Spring Newsletter.
Raffle prizes donations for this year's lunch draw are welcome as usual on December 8th for those already booked for The George event.
A booking form needs to be completed for all events and returned as listed. Deposits are offered to secure most trips with the balance at a later date as detailed below.
If you no longer wish to receive a copy of this newsletter please let Rob know at the address at the top. If you are able to receive one by email and save postage please let Rob have your email address. I will be emailing copies to those on my list so if you receive this by Royal Mail post I have not got a current email address.
