Chairman's Message

Chairman's Message

The Ipswich veterans have been operating for five years, the first four under the chairmanship of Derek Rusher who retired in April of 2008. It was at this time that I took on the Chair after spending four years on the committee, the last of which as the understudy to Derek.

We arrange four outings each year to places of interest. During 2008 we visited the Dickens museum , Saffron Walden and the Chocolate Lady at Steeple Bumpstead, and the Sandringham flower show. We also had a trip on the River Thames from Tilbury to Rochester and back. This proved to be one of the most interesting trips of the year and was a follow up to one we made two years ago from Tilbury to Chelsea.

During the year we have five or six social meetings when we have a guest speaker, who gives us talks on a range of interesting subjects, in the main concerning local knowledge. All veterans with their partner from any area are welcome to come to any of our social meetings or outings, the details of which we publish on the web site.

At the end of November each year we have a Christmas Lunch. This has been at the Ipswich Novotel for the past five years and this year proved to be the best yet. The date for the 2009 meal is the 26th of November and full details will be published on the web site in August.
