Chairman's Message

Chairman's Message

The Norwich Association began life in March 2006 and is now a well established and well atended group. Our monthly meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday every month at the Dussindale Centre, next to the Pound Lane store in Norwich. As well as a variety of speakers, we have a programme of summer walks, lunches out most months and we have run a large number of outings, all very well supported. We have members from all the five stores in our catchment area as well as a large number of veterans who have retired to our beautiful county from other areas.

The first half of the year has seen an interesting array of speakers at the Norwich Group meetings and we now know more about corsets and magic than ever before!

Our trips have had a horticultural theme so far. In May we had a guided tour of the Plantation Gardens in Norwich which are still in the process of being renovated. This was preceded by a tasty pub lunch nearby. June had us visiting the Beth Chatto Gardens near Colchester (photos attached). A wonderful place to roam around and luckily they have a very nice tearoom for when the heavens open!

We've also managed an afternoon visit to Hemsby for a carvery lunch and a breath of sea air . Before the month is over we will have had a leisurely cruise on the River Debden with a visit to Aldeburgh

The Norwich Group have continued to enjoy an interesting array of speakers at their monthly meetings as well as a variety of outings.

In the first half of the year we had trips to the Spalding Flower Festival, Bressingham Steam Museum and St George's whisky distillery as well as a short break in the Lake District.

The second half of 2010 included a trip to London for a Guided Tour of the Houses of Parliament which everyone found fascinating. Afterwards people were able to enjoy the warm weather and wander along the banks of the Thames. The coach journey home passed close to the Olympic Village so we could check on progress. (The photo shows a group of our ladies by the statue of Emeline Pankhurst)

In October we had a 3 day break at Potters in Hopton where swimming, bowls, bowling and lots of other sports were on offer plus generous helpings of food and amusing entertainment.

November included a lunch at Great Yarmouth catering college. This is extremeley popular and is becoming a regular feature of our programme of outings.

Another regular feature is the Christmas Show at Cromer and this year did not disappoint especially when one of our members was called on stage to assist Olly Day with his ventriloquist act. This caused quite a giiggle and proved the highlight of the show.

For our Christmas lunch this year we visited Warner's Corton Village and after the meal our "dance team" put on a stunning display (photo enclosed)

The programme for 2011 will be issued shortly and we hope to welcome more new members in the coming year.
