Chairman’s Message

Fellow Veterans,

I trust you are all well and prepared for the commercial onslaught which accompanies the festive season.
Whilst most of the news we are bombarded with these days is unremittingly gloomy,it is a bonus, I suppose,to hear that the Christmas sales are likely to commence in mid-December.However,if like me shopping is not something you consider to be a recreational activity, then this news will be of little consequence.
You may recall in my last message I commented on how good the weather had been, with the result that things went downhill very fast. Suitably chastised by Rob Connelly, Chairman of our Colchester Association, I will avoid this subject in future updates - sorry if I ruined your holiday Rob!
Since I last wrote to you we have held a Regional Conference for Local Association Committees at which we debated both the challenges and opportunities facing the veterans organisation. Feedback was generally positive about the conference and has provided a focus for some of the actions necessary to maintain the veterans organisation as a successful body into the future.
By now you will all have received your invites to next year's reunion lunches where I hope I will have the opportunity to meet with many of you in what will I am sure be a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

Dates for the Eastern Region are as follows:
  • Monday 13th of February Manor of Groves
  • Tuesday 14th of February Manor of Groves
  • Monday 26th of March Stoke by Nayland
  • Tuesday 27th of March Stoke by Nayland
  • Wednesday 28th March Stoke by Nayland
  • Monday 30th of April Norwich

We have had a number of personnel changes on our committees in recent months which is always useful for developing new ideas and keeping things fresh.
I am also pleased to confirm that Enfield has a newly elected committee in place and is in good shape for the year ahead. Many thanks to Cicely Pateman,Regional Secretary, for all the time she devoted to assisting Enfield in recent months.
As always I would urge you all to support your local associations either by attending meetings, participating in the activities which are organised on your behalf, or getting actively involved in the running of your committee.
I am sure many of you will be involved in your Christmas get togethers over the next few weeks which I hope go to plan and are enjoyed by all who attend.
On a final note I would remind you that if you have any suggestions for improving the running of the Veteran's Association then do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards Ian
